Sheikh Rasheed Claims Facing Death Threats, Vows to Stand Firm Amid Political Turmoil
RAWALPINDI: Awami Muslim League chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed has revealed that he is facing death threats but remains resolute in his stance, asserting his right to speak and act as he chooses.
In a recent video statement, the former interior minister declared that the current government’s days are numbered, urging them to “pack up and leave.” He described the government as a symbol of public hatred, stating that security concerns have made it impossible to move freely across the country. According to Sheikh Rasheed, the rulers have become despised figures.
Sheikh Rasheed also addressed the reasons behind the threats, explaining that his refusal to make a statement against a particular individual and his wife has put him in the crosshairs. He emphasized his loyalty and commitment to truth: “I maintain friendships until the grave.”
He further criticized the restrictions placed on Independence Day celebrations, noting that for the first time in 55 years, a ban was imposed. He recounted how the Deputy Commissioner cited large crowds for canceling the Lal Haveli Jashan Azadi Jalsa and fireworks. Despite these obstacles, Rasheed claimed that thousands of people gathered around Lal Haveli to sing national anthems, even without an official rally.
The AML chief also mentioned that he is now facing legal challenges, with the Pakistan People’s Party appealing to the Supreme Court against his statements. He condemned what he termed “fascist tactics” and urged the authorities to take notice of the situation, declaring that he remains unafraid and steadfast in his position.
